Hanoi Nguyen Hoang Trung breeds and sells purebred French bulldogs with short hair, flat noses and piled tails, with an annual income of more than 1 billion VND.

In a 30-square-meter house in the Thinh Liet district of Hoang Mai district, the 32-year-old man mixes beef, vegetables, salmon and foie gras in two large freezers to make lunch for 10 dogs. Food amounts were calculated based on the weight and condition of each animal.

"Whoever is thin, I have to increase nutrition. If I am fat, I force myself to lose weight and avoid obesity to stay in shape," Trung said. The monthly cost of dog food is VND8-10 million.

After resting, feed the dog yogurt or fresh milk to stimulate the digestive system, and go for a walk in the park near the house to bask in the sun in the afternoon.

"When it comes to pit bulls, many people are afraid because they mistakenly believe that pit bulls attack people many times. But the French bull is a pet dog that is small, friendly and easy to keep," said chef Trang of a restaurant in Vietnam. Kawachi said.

Trung breeds French bulldogs that are native to England. In 1860, French breeders introduced several dog breeds from England and bred them with French terriers to create a new breed with a small size, a weight of 7-14 kilograms, a nose tilted at 60 degrees, large eyes, and a short tail. -Hair, three basic colors black, brown and cow (white-black).

In Vietnam, the movement to breed French bulldogs started in 2010, but has been booming for about three years now. Hoang Trung is one of the few people in the country who has successfully bred this purebred dog.

The Hanoi boy has been fond of dogs since he was a child and has raised many large dog breeds, such as Rottweiler, Husky, Malinois... In 2018, he was attracted by the French bulldog series with big round eyes and funny faces. Photos from foreign friends. During his research, he found that it was an easy-to-raise, bark-less, friendly breed suitable for families with children, so he sought to order a breed from Ukraine for VND200 million.

"It was the same French bull, but with just a bridge in the forehead of CR7 (the name of the first dog) - a very rare feature of this line, so I bought him right away, even though friends and family said it was crazy to spend a lot of money," Trung said.

In order to create a good living environment for the dogs, Trung regularly cleans the cages, disinfects them regularly, equips them with some medical equipment, medicines, blood test strips, and follows a strict diet. French bulls are cold breed dogs that have now migrated to hot and humid tropical areas, resulting in weak breathing and heat shock. The owner must use steam fans and air conditioners to keep the temperature between 26 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius. The animals still need at least three months to adapt to the weather and food.

From the day he raised CR7, Mr. Trung often received mating invitations from other owners. Seeing the huge demand for buying foreign dogs, with many people willing to spend tens to hundreds of millions to buy them as a hobby, he ordered four purebred dogs (3 males and 1 female) in Russia, Ukraine, and Hungary, with a total value of nearly one billion dong for breeding and breeding to satisfy his passion and business.

"Importing dogs from abroad to Vietnam is very complicated and expensive," he revealed. This procedure requires 4-5 types of documents to prove the origin, and strict quarantine is carried out on both import and export sides, which requires a lot of time and energy. The cost of bringing each child home is approximately VND20-30 million.

has experience in raising dogs, equipped with a small microscope to check the sperm quality of male dogs, and a machine to check hormone levels in the blood of female dogs, to choose the best breeding time to create a purebred line. Especially pups born in Vietnam, because their respiratory system, bones, fur and skin have adapted to the weather, unlike foreign parents, are easier to raise.

At each birth, a female dog gives birth to an average of 4-5 children, and can give birth to two litters a year. "But I encourage clients to only give their pets a maximum of 4-5 litters throughout their lifespan. It is not recommended to give birth to a lot of products that are harmful to health due to caesarean section," Mr. Trung said.

Currently, he has 20 purebred French bulldogs for breeding and breeding in Hanoi and satellite farms. But the campsite is always sold out because demand is so high. A mating between two beautiful breeds, many people have to deposit the dog from birth. Many customers have to wait 6-12 months to find a variety with the look they want. "With these requirements, I had to wait to find the right variety, and of course the price would be high," he shared.

In October 2021, 32-year-old Mr. Trinh Van Doan from Tong'an District just bought a female French bull with the same color as the Trung cow for 55 million VND. Before that, he owned another thoroughbred for VND40 million. Compared with the market, Mr Doan said the purchase price of the two dogs was higher because both the father and mother of the dogs were imported and had clear inspection documents.

"I chose this breed of dog because it is cute, sheds less, barks less, has 2 doses of vaccines, and is suitable for families with children. The price is suitable for economic conditions. I want to add a male in the near future... just like and find the right color," he said with a smile.

Vu Dung, a 25-year-old French bull in Hoang Mai District, also bought a 5-month-old baby from Trung’s store for 20 million VND, born in Vietnam.

"Knowing Mr. Trung through the purebred bulldog community, I inquired and ordered him. Compared to breeding crossbreeds, a purebred breed is more beautiful if it has a square shape, is not fat, and has a neck that is not too long or too long. The hair is short and smooth compared to the body, and the tail is natural," Dung said.

After 4 years of raising and breeding, Trung's dog farm supplies 70-100 puppies to the market every year, with each price ranging from 20 to 50 million VND. He also underwent more than 1,000 cases of breeding, from 5 million to 7 million each time. In addition, he also opened a hotel service for pet dogs to receive care when their owners are on business or traveling. The total annual income exceeds one billion VND, excluding support and care expenses.

Compared to general prices, the puppies and breeding prices at Trung Farm are slightly higher. He explained that all the dogs on the farm are purebred, with more than half imported from abroad and the rest raised domestically, but all purebred. "When I post a photo of a dog on my personal page, along with documentation and sources, most customers are satisfied and decide to buy," he said.

Raising dogs is a big source of income, but Mr. Trung said he doesn't pay much attention to financial issues because he can do his hobby. As well as continuing to hunt purebred dogs from abroad, the 32-year-old hopes to build a community of pit bull lovers in Vietnam where like-minded people can share experiences.
