On July 5, 2022, the Telegraph reported that a Premier League player was arrested in Barnett, North London for suspected rape. Police said: "On July 4, the police received a report of a 20-year-old woman being raped. The report said that the rape occurred in June this year. On July 4, a 29-year-old man was arrested in a house in the Barnett area (north London). During the detention, the man was found to be suspected of rape against another woman in her 20s in April and June 2021."
The Sun later revealed that the Premier League player was nearly 30 years old and was one of the top stars in the team. He is also an international player and was originally scheduled to participate in the World Cup at the end of this year. The player was on vacation in the Mediterranean last month, while raped a woman in her 20s. The woman fled the hotel afterwards and returned to her home in the UK.
The case has been under a long investigation since then, and until today, the Crown Prosecutor's Office officially announced that Arsenal player Thomas has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
